  Dog-assisted activities for self-development  and professional inclusion in the  agro-silvo-pastoral sect

in Évora (Portugal)





Three days of workshop to share how through structured activities using the dogs, the technician works with trainees several areas of self-development as a person and as a citizen, and  the technician works key-areas to improve trainees’ success in the farm work – namely in the conduction of flocks of sheep.


Day 1 - Évora (Portugal

On this first day we had a presentation of «DOG OBEDIENCE TRAINING COURSE» AN INSTRUMENT FOR INCLUSION” followed by practice session 

Before we visit to ‘HERDADE DE COELHEIROS’: The Herdade de Coelheiros is a family property that has been producing quality wines in the Alentejo since 1991, currently in organic production mode.

After having a discussion on the topic "What would be needed for the professional inclusion of people with special needs in the organic vineyard". We got to know the practical point of view of the manager, as well as his experience, difficulties and advantages of its application.

Finally we visit to ‘CENTRO INTERPRETATIVO DO TAPETE DE ARRAIOLOS’ and to get to know the typical tapestry of the city of Arraiolos - internationally recognised. Tapestry as a manual activity for the professional inclusion of people with special needs. 



Day 2 -   ÉVORA- Rio de Moinhos-Estremoz (Porugal)

The second day was full of interesting activities:

We visit to the "Luís da Silva Support Centre for the Disabled", where technicians from the institution will give us an overview of the professional inclusion of people with special needs in Portugal.

Presentation of a «SHEEPDOD TRAINING AND HANDLING» clinic – we had a theoretical part and a practical part.  we had a practical session with dogs and sheep to demonstrate this training project.

Afterwards, we visited  VILA VIÇOSA OR ESTREMOZ. This will be a short touristic break, to get to know one of this typical Alentejo villages, renown by their marble producti


Day 3- ÉVORA- Herdade do Freixo do Meio (Portugal)  

Last day of workshop #4 in Portugal !!

GUIDED VISIT TO Montado do Freixo do Meio Woddland

They cover topics such as (pre)history, the ethics of Agroecology, native breeds, organic #livestock production, #biodiversityity, #agroforestry, acorns, ecosystem #regeneration and adaptation to climate change, food processing, cork from #montado, conservation and regeneration of ecosystems and adaptation to climate change.

We learned from the representative of Freixo do Meio about the professional #inclusion of people with special needs in this type of universe/business model.
